Razor

Kenneth Grange   Wilkinson Royale Razor  1979

Throw-away razors just don’t cut it. Your stubbles, maybe. But a morning routine involving a slippery little plastic handle with sharp steel blades being drawn over your wrinkly mug is just an ergonomic nightmare. We need to feel a certain weight in our hands to carefully guide a twin band of metal over the curves and crevasses of our visage. This famous designer, who has created everything from taxis to trains to cameras to kitchen objects, understood those basic ergonomics extremely well. He added a rubber handle, which prevents the razor from slipping out of soapy fingers. The satin metal finish and the matte black plastic handle with the technical-looking ridge details give it a noble and masculine look, so the ‘Royale’ in the name does not feel exaggerated.
