Joe Colombo 1970 Rolling Container
Designers create objects for everybody, not only for themselves. But even if they do, like this Italian talent when he created a trolley storage for architects and designers, everybody can win. Soon after its market launch, it became not only popular with other professions but also for the household, as a practical storage on wheels that could be easily cleaned and moved about. Still available today in several colors, it is a practical and beautiful example of the creator’s desire to provide flexible system solutions for the domestic landscape. The gifted designer, who gave up his artist career to focus on innovative ideas for furniture, lamps and other products, made the container flexible with drawers and removable covers, accessible with openings on three sides and pleasant to look at, using boldly colored glossy plastic. This provided a pop-art feel which helped its popularity as much as the many design awards it collected.
